H.E.Mr. Ömer Çelik, Minister of Culture and Tourism condemned ISIL’s destruction of museum including 7th century statues and Islamic manuscripts in Mosul. Mr Çelik said that the heritage of humanity was destroyed. Additionally he said “We are not sharing the same faith with those barbarians who destroy the artifacts of religion-generated culture. Every single page or even a single sentence of those artifacts is a great defiance to this evil message which is generated by this kind of terrorist organizations which exploit our religion. If we belong to this superior civilization then those who committed this terror do not.

Mr. Ömer Çelik, Minister of Culture and Tourism said at the opening of ‘Yuksel Erimtan Foundation Museum of Archeology and Arts’ that ISIL destroyed cultural artifacts of the entire humanity publicly and it was a barbarism having been unprecedented since the Middle Ages. Mr Çelik added that not only does ISIL kill the people but also destroys the heritage of humanity. They also destroyed artifacts in the ancient city of El-Hadar after they destroyed artifacts in Nimrod city.
Mr. Çelik reminded that ISIL destroyed the precious works of art in the Mosul Museum with sledgehammer and prior to this vandalism this terrorist organization destroyed manuscripts of more than eight thousand in Mosul Library belonging to Ottoman Empire, Abbasid, Ayyubid epoch. Mr. Çelik implied that safeguarding cultural property of a country is a principle of civilization. He continued that “when nationalism and civilization come together strong traces of life will be revealed to protect this type of artifacts. While the common history and cultural heritage of humanity are exposed to these barbaric attacks; we are conveying the sound of peace and the tolerance of this land from Anatolia to the whole World with these works.
